Seasons

I had a few inquiries about this quilt.   I couldn’t answer you individually because you are “no reply” commenters.  That means that your email address doesn’t show up when I try to reply back to you.    You might want to change that in your settings.  A couple of blogs that have instructions on how to do that are Woolie Mammoth and Humble Quilts.  Good Luck.

The quilt can be found in the book “A Nice Mix” by Gerry Kimmel-Carr.   It is out of print but you might try eBay or Amazon for used copies.

The little critters in each row were designed by Verna Mosquera who was the teacher I took the class from.   Those are not part of the original design in the book.

Good Luck in your search for the book.

I want to thank all of you who took the time to stop by and comment on my little quilt show.   It really meant a lot to me.

I’m getting the pictures together for the February projects that Sandy and I did.  Hoping to get that posted tomorrow!

Featured Quilter

I was humbled and honored to be chosen as the Featured Quilter for February at Quiltworks here in Bend, OR.  There is always a reception on the first Friday of the month to open the gallery.   This month, however, we had a big snowstorm and for the first time ever, the reception was cancelled.  The funny thing about that is….I had a dream the previous weekend that no one came to the reception.  Looks like that was a foreshadowing of what actually happened.  Even I didn’t show up!

Oh well, the quilts will be up the whole month.     I thought I’d give you an overview of how the gallery looked with all the quilts hanging.   It was overwhelming for me to see a lot of my quilts hanging in one place.

Because of where they were displayed, a couple of the quilts were hard to photograph in the overview.

And this is me pointing to my bio that I wrote.  Looks like I got a bit carried away since it ended up on 2 pieces of paper.  I usually don’t have that much to say about myself.  Smile

A huge thanks to Marilyn and Dave (owners) and Mary Ann (their fabulous employee in charge of the display) for choosing me to be your Featured Quilter for February.

If you are ever in Bend, be sure and stop by the shop and take a look at that month’s display.   It’s a wonderful experience.

Next week, I’ll share the February projects that Sandy and I have finished up!

January sewing with Sandy

In December, Sandy (no blog) and I got together to decide what we wanted to work on in 2014.   I always find myself feeling overwhelmed at the holidays because I want to make my gifts but by waiting so long, I  realize that I can’t get done all the projects that are on my list.

Soooooo, I told Sandy that I really wanted to focus on smaller seasonal projects.  Maybe even work on a Christmas item each month.    She so sweetly agreed and off we went on our quest for projects.  But…how should it be handled?  Well, Sandy came up with the idea of doing a wool project, a stitchery project, the Buttermilk Basin mats, a little quilt from the book “101 Fabulous Small Quilts”, and then another little quilt of our choice.

Big plans?   Yeah, seems like it, doesn’t it?  But, if you are only working on these small projects, they are quite do-able.   I picked the projects for January and she will pick February and so on.  Now, get this… we both actually got them all finished before the middle of the month.   Woo Hoo!  Here’s what we worked on.

These are the little mats I’ve been showing you.   We needed to get caught up on the December one.  The patterns are by Buttermilk Basin, called “By thy Hands”.

This is Sandy’s December mat.   You’ll notice when you see them together that they are different.  That’s because Sandy finds it hard to follow a pattern.  LOL    She actually took the February pattern and made it for December.   She can do that?   The quilt police won’t come knocking on her door?  Who knew?  Hmmm.

This is mine and is the actual pattern for Dec.

This is Sandy’s January block.   She decided a snowflake was in order.

DSCN0046
And here’s mine.  Just like the pattern called for, except that somehow I got the middle points going the wrong direction.   It’s nothing I will change though.   Did I invent a new block?
DSCN0057

Our “little quilt” project was picked from the March/April 2005 issue of Fons and Porter’s “Love of Quilting” magazine.  It’s called Prairie Cabin mini.
This time Sandy made it like the pattern.  It’s tiny.   Measures 13” x 18”
DSCN0047

I decided to make 2 of them, but when I got the blocks all made and laid them out, I fell in love with the look so made my quilt a bit bigger.   Mine measures 20” x 24”.    I am going to hand quilt it, so it’s technically not really finished.

The quilt chosen from the 101 quilts book is called  Civil War Scraps.   It measures 17” x 22”.     This is Sandy’s.

On to the stitchery project.    It’s in the book “Hollyberry Stitcheries” by Kindred Spirits.

Sandy made 2 of them.

I reduced mine by 50%.

You can see the difference in the sizes.

And last…, the wool project.    The pattern is called “Sharing Christmas” and it can be found in the Special Winter issue of Quiltmania 2011.
Sandy made hers into a pillow.  It’s pretty big but I didn’t get the measurements.
DSCN0044
This one is mine.
IMG_1561
We will put a few of the projects in our “Christmas box” so that we have gifts ready to go next Christmas.  See?  no stress!
Sandy is choosing the February projects and if you’ve followed her creations on my blog,  you’ll know that they are going to be wonderful.
And last, but not least, for those of you who asked about the pattern for the little mat I made for my friends with the candle holder that Mr CnW made, here it is.    I chose to use a different snowman and made the tree limbs a bit more wonky. It’s definitely a pattern to play with, and guess what?  You don’t have to follow the pattern exactly as designed.  Wow…what a concept.
If you don’t ever hear from me when you ask a question, it’s because you are “no reply” and I don’t have your email address to respond.   Google how to fix that.  There are instructions all over blogland.

See ya soon.  Hugs, Anne

Party continued…

I’m bound and determined to get all these Christmas pictures posted before midnight tonight.    Then we can start the New Year with a blogging clean slate.

I’m not one to make resolutions because I find it sets me up for failure.  Only once did I make it for the whole year and that was the year I resolved to read a book a week.   It really did feel good to accomplish that.   But that was a long time ago, long before quilting came into my life.    Now, I read in bed at the end of the night and am lucky to get in 10 pages.

So, if you’ve made resolutions, cheers to you!  I’ll be rooting you on.

Now, for the rest of the party…

We all give each other the same gifts (that way, no fighting)  LOL.   We all used to hand make these gifts, but sometimes that’s just not possible and really, does it matter?   Nope!

This was my gift to each of them.   I made the mat and Mr. CnW made the wooden candle holder.

Janet gave each of us this wonderful Snowman to hang on the wall.
IMG_1478
Right now, I don’t have any wall space, so it’s on the stairs.   Cute, huh?
IMG_1508
Patty made each of us a pillow and also put together a photo album of our past Christmases.   It was so touching and fun to reminisce!
IMG_1480
She made 2 different pillows, but there wasn’t any fighting!   I love the one I got!
IMG_1509
Marsha took the next picture and you can tell she was really on drugs for her knee replacement surgery.  Haha.   That’s okay, Marsha, we forgive you!
She made each of us a little quilt and added the candle and wreath.
IMG_1482
I found the perfect spot for it.
IMG_1504
Cathi gave us each a 2014 calendar…it’s her traditional gift to us. She also made each of us these rag trees.  Her grandkids helped her do it.   So cute.   And….a snowman mug for good measure.
IMG_1483
Found a place for mine on a nightstand.
IMG_1507
When we play all the games, there are door prizes. We each contribute to the gifts.  This is my haul.   I just kind of threw them in this red tool box and I think it’s actually kinda cute.
IMG_1501
And these too!
IMG_1502
So, thanks to my wonderful friends for another fabulous Christmas!   I treasure your friendships more than you know!

I had a few questions about the name of the quilt that was in a couple of the pictures from my decorating post.

It’s called “Sarah’s Star” and it’s from the book “A Nice Mix” by Gerry Kimmel Carr.   It’s an old book, but if you’re interested, you might be able to find it on eBay or Amazon.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for continuing to stop by my blog, even when I take a break every now and then.   Your support means the world to me.

I would say that I’m going to try to do better in 2014, but I don’t want to set myself up for failure.    Karen issued a challenge to me to do a post every day during the month of January.   Hmmm, I turned her down, because I know my limitations, but I will try and catch up on all the pictures I have that I haven’t shown you!  Trying is always a good thing!  Smile

Happy New Year!

The Party!

100_6772
Every year my longtime (sounds better than “old”) girlfriends from CA and I get together for our annual Christmas party.  It’s the highlight of our year and we all look forward to it so much.
Everyone takes a turn at hosting it (except for me….too far to travel in “iffy” weather).   And, when we aren’t hosting, we are in charge of one of the aspects of the party.
This year Janet was in charge of our stockings and boy did out do herself!    Check out what we got.
You might want to click and enlarge the photo to see all the goodies.   I’m mad at myself for not getting a picture of all the stockings lined up before the “chaos” began.
100_6776
From there, we needed some sustenance so headed for the dining room and dinner.    Cathi and Marsha were in charge of dinner and it was so yummy!  Pork roast with grilled veggies and potatoes.  Oh, and warm homemade applesauce.  Marsha was just 2 weeks out of surgery for a total knee replacement, so she provided Cathi with moral support.  We were just so glad that she was even able to come.  And get this….she lasted the WHOLE evening.  That would be from 5pm – 1am.   Superwoman!

IMG_1451
After dinner it was time for our “Secret Santa” gifts.    First up was Marsha who gave this fabulous little quilt and Wool sign to Janet.    I have that snowman pattern…….LOL
100_6777
From there, Janet gave her gift to Cathi.  Check out all that loot!
IMG_1465
Cathi’s turn to give her gift to…Marsha.  The snowman in the box is a chalkboard.   How clever!   And I love that snow angel.
IMG_1458
Well, that meant that 2 of us were left, which means we got each other.
I had Patty and made the little quilt for her.   She has been mentioning that she wanted to find an old sewing machine drawer to decorate with and I found this one when we were in Snohomish, WA.
IMG_1466
I had to put the “stuff” in the drawer at home, dismantle it for the plane ride, and then redo it when I got there.   So, I took a picture at home… LOL
IMG_1345
This is what it looked like at the end of the night after Patty added some goodies that she won.  I hope it’s something she uses over and over with the seasons.
IMG_1510
Finally………my turn!    Obviously, Patty drew my name.   And look what I got?   OMG….I love the cross stitch so much.   And the clock and little snowballs are just wonderful.
IMG_1470
Our secret Santa swap is always so much fun.
Then it was on to play a few games. (My job)  We actually kept the games to a minimum this year trying to make sure that Marsha didn’t get too tired out.  We wanted her to be able to have enough energy to stay for the whole party.
I found this “pin the nose on the snowman” at the Dollar Tree.   I have to say, it was pretty darn cute and fun.  Here’s Marsha trying to get close.  Not sure if she was trying to peek or what but her hand is sure playing with the mask!
IMG_1452
I think Cathi was our legitimate winner, but someone wasn’t close at all.  Can you tell what I’m talking about?   HAHAHA
IMG_1453
And then it was time for our standby…JINGO.    Janet and Patty made the game quite a few years ago and it’s so much fun to play.  Bingo with snowmen!
IMG_1471
We use Hershey’s kisses as markers.  The games are over when we’ve eaten all the markers.
Oh well, it’s not like we don’t have any sugar!
Now you know how Marsha managed to stick with us!
IMG_1440
Tomorrow, more giftys.
Hugs, Anne
