Gees Louise

Can you see that top window? Well, it's shattered and it happened all by itself this morning with no one even in the same room! Hubby was taking a shower and I was downstairs quietly sitting at the computer when I heard a big crash.

My first thought was that Jack had knocked something over. I looked in every room and didn't see anything out of place. I asked DH if he heard anything and he said "yes". I told him I couldn't find Jack and he told me that Jack was outside on the deck.

So, I looked on the deck and there was Jack looking up at the broken window. I thought a bird had flown into the window, but the closer I looked, I realized that the outside window was intact and it was the inside (double paned) glass that exploded. Have you ever heard of such?
We had a couple of contractors come out and they both said that the window frame is bent and it's probably from the house settling. Called the manufacturer (Milgard Windows) who informed us it's not covered under the lifetime warranty. Of course not....when is a problem EVER covered under the warranty?

Needless to say, we're glad no one was sitting in the chair under the window because the shards of glass looked like lethal weapons. (I didn't think to grab the camera until after we had cleaned up the pieces). We're also glad that Jack was safe and sound outside wondering "what the heck?" If we hadn't seen him looking up at the window, I don't know when we would have figured out what happened! LOL. Our own Jack Bauer saved the day! (By the way...that's really his full name).

  1. Wow.....that could have been nasty if someone had been underneath the window...of course it wouldn't be covered under warranty..I am with you ...what is covered under warranty....???

  2. Thank goodness no one was underneath the window! Hugh sigh!
When you mention warranty to any company they look at you like you have two heads. I'm not sure they know the definition of warranty, anymore.

    Jack Bauer - perfect! :-)

  3. I've had that happen with a very large window and we think it happened because of expansion and contraction in extremely cold weather. It sounded like a gun went off. Of course our window only cracked and didn't shatter.

  4. That's scary, glad no one got hurt, I wonder why that isn't safety glass? And of course it's never under the lifetime warranty when you go to get something like that replaced, it's Murphy's Law!

  5. I have heard of that too but both panes shattered. I am so glad no one was hurt. I don't envy you the 'fun' of the repair. It's always something, huh?

I hope the rest of the weekend is better!

  6. Wello, just isn't that special....a lifetime warranty and it isn't covered but happened on it's own! Did you ask how it would have been covered? You guys are so lucky to have not been under it...but you know that! Amazing....glad you are ok and sad inconvenienced.

  10. We had this happen to our back slider the first year we moved here. I saw that Beth mentioned that it was Murphy's Law; well, that is my last name :-) I love your blog!

  11. Hey sister I've got the same thing, but it's only a very long crack and it didn't shatter like yours did. I'm waiting for a new window which should be here next week.

You are really lucky that no one was near that window - that looks pretty scary and glad that Mr. Jack helped ya figure that one out. You know it's never covered under warranty, LOL. I've yet to ever have anything break in time to be able to use a warranty.

    Hugs - Karen

  12. Anne, so glad no one was injured! In my walks around town the past couple of weeks, I've actually seen a lot of this! I thought it was because of the very cold weather and snow that we had - which I guess it could be - a lot of snow on the roof would make the house settle more! Too bad about the warranty - I'd send Jack Bauer after them - LOL!!
    Cheers!

  13. Wow, that is pretty scary! Thank goodness no one was hurt and that your dog was safe too.

I hope that you can find a fast and affordable way to have it replaced. Insurance/warrantees/guarantees/ they all seem to have this fine print someplace!

Wishing you a great rest of the weekend

  15. OMG, your dog is Jack Bauer? Welcome to my close knit circle of nut jobs! (I will leave you to wondering if I mean you or Jack). I wanted to comment on the frost photos. Amazing! I remember that from Minnesota on occasion. It is like the fairies waved their magic wand and turned it into fairyland.
