Now you're probably wondering why this would make me sad, right? Well, it's the last season of The Gilmore Girls and I just finished watching it. And where did I watch it?
Right here. Want a better shot?
That's right... I rigged up the portable DVD player on my treadmill and watched all seven seasons while exercising. This series actually made me WANT to get on the treadmill. Have you ever heard of such nonsense? I would watch 1 and a half episodes which usually took me about 4.5 miles.
How do I describe the series? Let's see...it is sharp and witty with such fast paced dialogue you really have to concentrate to keep up. Lots of references to pop culture, politics, social commentary, etc. It's all about family, relationships, (especially mother/daughter) and friendships, with the most quirky side characters. All told with humor and love. I can't say enough good things about it and I'm so sad that I've finished the series. If you've never seen it, you might like to start watching. But beware, as you might get hooked like I did.
Now I'm in a quandry... What to watch next? I need something that will really pull me to the treadmill. Let me know what series does (or has done) that for you. I need to find something new. I'm going to borrow Season 1 of "24" from my friend Brenda but I've seen the rest of the seasons so, after that, I'll be anxious to find something else.
Great idea for the treadmill....hmmm...maybe that will get me on more often! Such a sweetheart....she is just precious!
ReplyDeleteI know just what you are sayin' here. I love those Gilmore Girls - I can't think of another show to take their place.
ReplyDeleteVery cute girls!
ReplyDeleteI love Gilmore Girls - I also enjoyed Everwood - all three seasons are available on DVD.
Emma is adorable!! But you know that dont you?
ReplyDeleteWow what a great idea to watch the dvd while exercising. Your brilliant! Hey maybe I could watch the food channel while exercising. I'd do some running then.
Miss Emma's a cutie! I don't know that House would have the series type pull, but it's sure fun to watch. And I'm addicted to Big Love, so that's another potential LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh I cried watching the last episode of Gilmore Girls! I watch Friends (10 series) using my stationary bike. Also NCIS works good for me!
ReplyDeletehugs

I STILL haven't gotten over the cancellation of Lorelei and Rory!!!! It was one of my all-time favorite shows. One of my neighbors also adored it and we still commiserate together about our "loss" LOL. She even bought me a coffee mug that says "Luke's Place"!!!
ReplyDeleteOK -- I thought I was the only dork that worked out to the gilmore girls that my family gave me last year for my birthday!!!! I'm on the last dvd....Like you contemplating what to use next. To increase my "Dorky mom" statuts, I'm consdering the Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman series or Christy series. I figure there's bound to be quilts in there somewhere....
ReplyDeleteEmma is a cutie pie! I read on the treadmill...distraction...make the time pass.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip! I watched 5 seasons of 24 on the treadmill and lost a ton of weight. I almost fell off a few times too with all the action. LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! My hubby has me stuck on HOUSE. And I hate hospital's and blood. But I'm totally hooked. We DVR all the repeats on some channel. Looks like you had a good time in Seattle with Emma. ;o) ooxx`jodi
ReplyDeleteLOL, I thought Emma might be watching the "The Gilmire Girls" like someone else does...LOL
ReplyDeleteFor me it would definitely be West Wing followed by Sex and the City. Great idea! When I used to go to the gym in the early morning I used to wish I could have tivo'd my tv shows from the night before that i couldn't stay up to watch b/c I was going to the gym early and watch them while on the elliptical! Hopefully the gyms will catch up to you soon!
ReplyDeleteAnne,
ReplyDeleteEmma is Adorable, such a cute pic of you three girls shopping for her trike. Serious business!
I have the last Harry Potter book on CD, it was awesome to listen too.
We just finished watching all of Northern Exposure and I'm so sad I can't think of another one!
ReplyDeleteI'll need to rig up my treadmill like that! Great idea. Not sure about the 4.5 miles though - I'm thinking I'm doing OK with the 1 for now . . . maybe someday it will be more. Gilmore Girls - I know nothing about them so can't recommend a replacement for you. Your granddaughter is adorable and very huggable! - Marlene
ReplyDeleteWhat about, Brothers and Sisters????
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy it!!!
Ariadna
Hi Anne--I got to tell you, you had me worried when i read your title line on my blogsite, blog list--glad you are only sad about a movie series ending!!!! Emma is cute and she must be fun to have around. Can't help you on the entertainment end--now if it was a next quilt project----!!!!Just, Di
ReplyDeleteI just had to comment because I was so sad when The Gilmore Girls went off the air. I still watch their reruns everyday. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they'd bring back all those wonderful and quirky characters in a couple of years.
ReplyDeletelove the emma pics, mom! sorry i have no ideas on a new series for you though. well...maybe LOST? you know it's my fave...
ReplyDeleteGilmore Girls and Everwood are my two favorite TV series. Unfortunately, Everwood released only season 1 although it lasted four seasons before it was canceled. Nothing else compares to them for me. I'm not as into them as the younger set, but both Seinfeld and Friends seem to be big hits. I have seen them but didn't make the connection like I did with GG and Everwood. I see that someone commented about the Christy series. I have that set too and I enjoy it a lot. And I Love Lucy, I have the complete set of those.
ReplyDeleteThat Emma is such a cutie pie - love when you share pictures of her. Hmmm I don't know about a series like the Gilmore Girls to replace that for you - but I enjoy the reruns of Reba - LOTS.
ReplyDeleteHugs - Karen
Hi Anne! What a great idea! I love it. I am suggesting you should watch 24. Oops, you might never want to get off the treadmill - because that show is SO addicting!
ReplyDeleteGood luck
mary
or the office which is just plain funny, or 30 rock (my friends say it is hysterical but maybe a little rank too)
For treadmill viewing, I suggest the mini-series John Adams, then some British tv shows that I got from Netflix: Blue Murder (police mystery set in Manchester, England), As Time Goes By (comedy with Judi Dench), The Vicar of Dibley (comedy with female vicar).
ReplyDeleteThis may sound dorky but my husband got me all of the "All In The Family" episodes for Christmas and I am enjoying them soooooo much. It's not gonna have the same type of pull as a series, but they sure do contain a lot of political and social statements that are still relevant (and funny!) today. Have you checked out www.hulu.com? Lots of good stuff there that you can watch on your laptop free.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...maybe I should start doing my daily walks like you do, Anne, instead of braving the elements (wind, snow, rain....terible for the old hair, you know)! Great setup! Mr. S. and I have been hooked on every known BBC cop/mystery series. Our fav so far is MI-5 - be sure to start from the beginning. We also loved Prime Suspect and I can email you with loads of others. Have fun choosing!
ReplyDeleteOh - and Miss Emma is getting to be all grown up and so adorable - bet she can't wait for the new arrival!
Cheers!
What a smart idea!! It makes you WANT to exercise. I'm gonna try to rig something like that on my eliptocol{sp??}
ReplyDeletelove that thumbs up
ReplyDeleteOh let me tell you gilmore girls is a favorite around her
my youngest DD just keeps watching them over and over!
she starts from season one and goes thru all of them
LOVES the humor and the references.
as she gets older she understands more and more of the.
she remembers new things as she watches all the shows each time
just watch them over again!
Kathie
I love Gilmore Girls! I started watching them on TV from the begining of the series till the end. Most of my friends knew right where I was on Tuesdays. I love 24 it is really good. I like Bones and Alias, which is off the air now too. 24 the first season didn't totally hook me it took season 2 of 24 to really hook me. So now on Monday nights everyone knows where I am. Nothing can really replace the Gilmore Girls I have found. I hope that is so good ideas!
ReplyDeleteJennifer
I'm a Gilmore Girls fan too...you might like to try Ballykissangel...a BBC series that my local library has purchased the whole seires of!
ReplyDeleteWell, you might think it a little backwards, but our family enjoyed watching The Waltons series this past year. There are 8 seasons out now. It started when one of our twins wanted the 1st season for Christmas last year. He was 7 at the time and had seen the first TV movie, The Homecoming. It sure made us appreciate our family a little more this year, and also all that we have.

What a great idea for the treadmill!!! I've seen a few episodes the Gilmore Girls. I loved it, but didn't really know what was going on. I keep saying I'm going to get Netflicks so I can watch it.
ReplyDeleteI can't recommend enough... Big Love. I've watched each episode twice it's that good. Great writing and story-lines. It's like everything you said about GG... but instead of mother/daughter, it's hubby/wife/wife/wife. If I was on an island and could have only one tv show, it would be Big Love. And Lost too. But then... I just might be on the Lost island!
