Buttermilk Basin and a GIVEAWAY!

I have always loved Stacy's designs but she hadn't been at market in awhile so it was fun to get to see her new stuff in person.    She and Karen are great friends, so Karen introduced me and we all even went to dinner and had a great time.  That's Stacy on the left, me in the middle and Karen on the right.    They are both so tall (or maybe I'm so short) and I was even standing on my tiptoes.

These are a new Block of the Month called "By Thy Hands".  I love each and every month!

And I'm so drawn to anything fall related.

Aren't these next two just great?

There was inspiration everywhere I turned.

I LOVE these.    Called "Wool and Needle Handwork BOM", you start with the foundation block, and then start making a center block each month to attach to it.

Here are all the months that can be attached.   (I can't remember how they were attached, but maybe with velcro?)

More yummy fall projects.

Remember the sheep blankets that I've been making?  Well, Stacy has revived the patterns and put them all into one large pattern with all 12 monthly blankets.    There's also the pattern to make the sheep.

Here's my May blanket but after seeing Stacy's all made up, I may be re-doing mine.   Hers looked so darn cute.   (I purchased my sheep off an etsy site)

Stacy, so generously, gave me 2 patterns to give away.   I'm including a wool bundle of neutrals from Blackberry Primitives.

All you have to do is make a comment and tell me what your favorite notion is.    I love notions and want to see if there's something out there that I don't have and NEED!   :)

I'll pick the winners on Sunday so that I can get them in the mail early next week.     Good Luck!

More to come...Hugs, Anne

  1. Clover Seam Ripper!!! LOL!!! I have them ALL over the house!!! It's the one with the white handle. It's perfect. I always have one in the pocket of the hooded sweatshirts...I wear EVERY day. A hoodie could be my second favorite "notion" The pocket on the front is the best storage when I am quilting. I keep everything stored in there...seam ripper, marking pens, eraser, little snippers...garbage. LOL!!! Maybe the hoodie is my favorite notion?? LOL!!

  2. Oh, I'm just learning to applique and I want to learn to use woolens and felts. I think the very best notion to have it a GREAT IDEA!!! As for my quilting, the best little notion I use is a pair of clippers called EasyKut Spring Action Scissor with Rainbow Titanium Oxide Finish. They're from Tooltron. Whewwwww! What a mouthful for the little rainbow tinted scissors. Love them so much I seldom pick up anything else to snipping threads.

  3. My favorite is my pair of crane embroidery scissors...they cut so nicely .I even use them to cut out my small elements for wool applique, they cut so well !!

  5. My favorite notions at the moment are the Marti Michell templets. I just discovered them and am using them to make the Farmers Wife blocks. They work great.

  6. I have loved Buttermilk Basin designs and these are gorgeous! I have a sheep sitting on my piano in the living room who definitely needs a blanket :-) Love the new BOM too. They are lovely.
So nice that you finally got to meet Stacy at Quilt Market.
oh yes...favorite notion? I just bought some small scissors at our quilt show. patchwork and needle craft both by KAI scissors. Love them!

  7. Oh Anne...how can you stand going to market and not picking up one of everything you see?! I love it all and afraid my hands would be awfully red with all the hand slapping I would have to do and perhaps some blinders? I've been admiring your sheep and I think you've blogged somebody elses too? I would love the pattern...unsure when I could get to it but add it to my lifetime of to-dos! LOL

The best notion I have is my Clover seam ripper. I have NEVER found another that I like as well. A second notion is my leather nimble thimble for hand stitching on my bindings. I can't live without and purchase several at a time.

  8. I am a "gadget girl" and I love notions! Right now I'm torn between my two favorites - my Dovo scissors that have such a fine tip they can cut just one thread, and my wooden skewer that I use for positioning applique pieces. I know it's not a real quilting notion but I couldn't live without it!

I am drooling over your pictures of Stacy's booth. I sure hope my LQS orders every new pattern because I want them all!

  9. My scissors, have them all over my sewing room as they sometimes get buried under my numerous piles of things in progress. I love Buttermilk Basin patterns.

  12. You know me and my ongoing love affair with wool, Anne. What a super giveaway.

My favorite notion, especially for appliqueing wool is the little teeny tiny silver 'Thimble-it' that sits just on the tip of your middle finger. It's so light you hardly know it's there. As a matter of fact, I've washed dishes with mine still on and it stayed there the entire time!

  13. I love my little strawberry pincushion with grounded walnut shells to keep my needles nice and sharp!! Hugs!!

  14. Thanks for all the eye candy! That stuff is so yummy. I am officially jealous of your trip to market now.
My favorite notion is the wooden skewer I use for turning edges while ironing applique pieces, and I use it to guide my fabric while piecing.

  15. My new Bohin scissors are my favorite notion right now. They are so pretty and they cut so well. Lucky you to get to go to market. Thanks so much for the wonderful pictures for us to drool over. I love all of Stacy's new patterns. Thanks so much to both of you for the giveaway.

I don't know if these count as notions, but I love Sweet Dreams natural cotton stuffing and Primitive Gatherings wool appliqué needles. Another favorite item is PF Changs chopsticks. They are pointed on one end and square on the other. Perfect for pushing out corners and tamping down emery. :) so eat with a fork and save those chopsticks!

Lovely pic of the 3 girlies, I can only dream of how amazing it must have been to be there!
Notion? we usually just have to make-dp here but I love my mini clover iron-great for applique and bias and all those small wool pieces.
Thanks for the fun and fingers and toes crossed for Sunday,

  20. Oh my gosh these are all so adorable! I love the monthly wall hanging with the sewing accessories. I know Karen from blogging and have run into her at market too. Missed seeing you this last time! OK, my favorite notion is a little clip that attaches to my clothes with the scissors attached to the end of a string that pulls out and then rewinds. It probably has a name. Haha!

  21. My needle threader. It is like the Clover one, but hard to find by another company. It has holes for thick and thin threads.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh, oh, oh! I like the birds in the baskets. The crow pieces are wonderful. Too much goodness. Makes me want to shop, shop, shop and stitch, stitch, stitch.

  23. I got so excited over the new designs that I forgot to mention a favorite notion. Right now, I would say it is my thimble. It is one with a metal tip but rubbery sides. The one I am using has hot pink sides. I like it because it is comfortable to wear and fits whether my fingers are skinny or fat that day but yet still has a metal end to it. Some days when I am cold, my fingers seem to be smaller and a thimble slips off. Not so with this one.

  24. I have always had trouble with my Olfa rotary cutter - I go through the blades very quickly and then I would just have a terrible time trying to get the new blade installed along with the little gasket gizmo that goes with the blade....anyway, I waited until the sale at JoAnns and splurged and bought a Gingher rotary cutter and it is just wonderful! The blades are literally a snap to replace, don't seem to wear out as fast, and it fits the hand very nicely. I think it also looks nice too.

Love your wonderful pictures of the Kansas City quilt show - so many beautiful new patterns! Also, thanks for the giveaway

  25. Wonderful pictures! Thank you for sharing!!! Favorite notion right now is Karen Kay Buckley's scissors. Nice sharp, sharp points !!!! Big handles that are cushioned and don't hurt your hands! They come in two sizes and both are wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  26. oooo, what fun!! My favorite notion right now is the little wooden ironing tool. Don't know what it is called. But boy does it come in handy when I am sewing and just need to press a seam here or there. I bought it at the Nashville AQS show a few years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wonderful patterns and wonderful wool. My favorite notion isn't new, my tiny embroidery scissors.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thank you for taking us to market! Not too exciting, but I don't know what I would do without my rotary cutter, Omnigrid/Kai scissors, and my latest acquisition -- Open Gate's Fit to be Geese ruler (like it so well, I bought all her other fit-to-be rulers).

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks for the giveaway chance!

One of my favorite notions is Thimble-Its by Colonial. I put one on my underneath finger when I quilt, and it doesn't get all jabbed by the needle. I cut the Thimble-Its in half and use a half each time I quilt, so a package lasts a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Right now my favorite notion is the new red klips!!!to hold the binding in place while stitching. I love all of of Buttermilk Basin's designs!

  39. OMGosh!! Love all of these Buttermilk Designs!! Love the new Winter Banner...and the Fall designs...too many lovely patterns!! My favourite notion this week has been "Stitching Lines" by Marin Colusa. They make sewing HST a snap...no drawing lines or setting up that Angler 2 that is a pain in the neck! These are simple and bang on! Love them! Thanks for the chance to win this LOVELY give away!

  41. When I do hand applique, I use the spray-starch turn-under method to prepare my pieces. The best ever notion to help with this is a trundle needle. It allows me to control the edges before pressing without burning my fingers!

Notions are addicting, I love browsing for new useful ones. My eyes change so fast I am always buying more needle threaders, they live right along side my thimble.

Many many thanks for sharing all those pictures! You're right : this booth was so amazing. I already adored Stacy West's drawings but these new creations are even more fantastic. Be really impatient to do some.
(You can see it on my blog : http://atelierrougec.canalblog.com/)
My favorite notion is the YLI hand quilting thread because simply I'm a hand quilter and the colors are so country like I love.
Congratulations for your blog : it's really my favorite and I come every day just to have the happiness to contemplate all these treasures. Enjoy your week-end!
    Good luck to everybody!

  49. Love, love, love all the Buttermilk Basin patterns! My favorite notion is a tie between the Clover seam ripper and the Thimble-It (don't like the feel of a "real" thimble so these are great). Thanks for a chance at the giveaway!

  50. I love bom's. Thanks for sharing the pics.
My oldest favorite is my fabric scissors bought in the mid 80's. Bought them when I was hand piecing and cutting paper patterns.
My new fave, now that I'm machine piecing, is my small rotary cutter.
Not my favorite notion, but, sadly, my most used is the seam ripper.

  59. I love my small fiskars 'snippy' scissors, spring loaded and work like a charm....and I couldn't do with out my large ruler that I use when rotary cutting, it has a lip on one edge which hugs the mat and keeps it from slipping..loved all your wonderful photos....soooo many beautiful ideas and projects to make....thanks for the wonderful giveaway....happy quilting

  60. My favorite notion is small snips that I keep by my sewing machine. My machine has a thread cutter but I still use these so much. Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Great giveaway! My favorite sewing notion is a porcupine quill! No kidding, a real quill. It is super sharp and I use it for machine sewing like a stiletto but it is also the best for doing applique on wool. You can use the sharp end of the quill to stab the piece you are going to applique to hold it onto the background. Some applique pieces are so small (like berries, cherries, etc) and it's great to have them held down. I've tried to do the same with needles but it doesn't work. I find myself using it all the time! I got mine at a wool show but have had it for years so not sure where to get them today. I wouldn't want to try to get them from the source-lol. Cheery wave from Bev

  62. My favorite notion, hands down, is a stitching needle. Just the feel of a needle in my fingers does good things to my soul.
    Your give away looks beautiful!

  64. Buttermilk Basin has the BEST patterns!!!! I want them all!
My favorite notion is my pin cushion/ort bag. I have one for my cross stitch, one for my sewing machine, and one for my wool applique, all hand made by quilters from craft shows. :)

  65. I love your blog, thanks for all the great pictures. There are so many great notions, I don't have them all yet but I'm working on it. 67. Wow! I want to make one of everything you've posted a picture of!
My favorite notion are scissors--little embroidery ones. Don't know why, maybe I want lots of them so I can have a pair with each project and never have to search for them.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I was looking at all of the photos, and said "oh I like that one" to each of them. Thank you for the treat.

I was thinking about what favorite, or helpful notion I have. I can say that it must be a good pair of sissors. I have small cute sissors for my applique and stitchery. Then I have olfa sissors for cutting fabric. They cut like butter, no sweet spot, just wonderful cutting at any point.

One other thing I have that is helpful, are bubbles? They are the protectors of spools of DMC thread. I received more for my birthday and was oh so happy. Now my thread will not run a muck in my totes. Always have two or three projects going.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I love working with wool. It is so forgiving and allows for such texture. I also love wool from Blackberry Primitives! My favorite new notion....BOHIN chenille needles 18/22 to hand sew on wool. They really are terrific and glide right through! Give them a try.

  70. I'm so with you on the Fall thing!

Fons and Porter mechanical fabric pencil for marking fabric.

  76. I saw way too many projects that i have to make, lol.
    I love working with wool.

My favorite tool is my bent scissors, they are perfect for clipping off little pieces and for punched pieces by getting right up to the edge without messing up the other pieces. I also use them when I am doing wool and need to reshape a piece, the curve makes it easier to cut into a section where there might be excess, from my over cutting.

I could not find a place to follow, am I missing something?

  79. Anne, It was great to see two of my favorite bloggers together. I have been lucky enought to purchase Karen's kits and they are always wonderful. Many of them are Stacy's patterns - great designs.

One of my favorite notions is form flex. I use it to back all my wool and embroidery projects. Then you cannot see the stitches through the fabric and it gives it stability.

  80. My favorite notion is the leather thimble with the stainless steel tip. Thanks for the chance to win!

  81. Oh, I love the Hera Marker for marking quilting lines...it just puts a very fine crease/mark on the fabric that fades away gradually - not like chalk that brushes off or air erase markers that sometimes disappear before I can get to all of the quilting.
Thanks for sharing your QM pictures AND some of your loot :)

  82. Current favorite notion would have to be my new teflon scissors. You can cut those fused wool pieces without gumming up your sewing scissors. 84. My Favorite notion is my Famore scissors from Famore Cutlery. The cut wool like a knife sliding through butter. I use it when cutting of my wool applique designs. They are reasonable priced too, under $20. I would love to win your giveaway.

Hope I'm not to late to enter the Buttermilk giveaway....my favorite notion at the moment is my seam ripper followed by my walking foot, can't live without them. Thanks for the chance to win the buttermilk patterns and the wool bundle. Have a wonderful week Anne!! hugs Pauline

  86. There is a new ruler out called bloc-loc. It is used to square up half square triangles. There is a grove that fits over the seam. It just slides up and locks in place. Then you can trim 2 sides and then turn both the block and the ruler and trim the other 2 sides. It makes quick work of a tedious work. Betty
