July sewing with Sandy

I didn’t do this post in July because Sandy played hookey from Woolies and went to Seattle to a baseball game.   Priorities!  So, anyway, we had our show ‘n tell this past Tuesday when the Woolies met.
This was my month to pick the projects and they are an ode to Karen.  2 of the projects came from her nest.    Sandy and I visited Karen and her Red Farmhouse in May and had a wonderful time.   Her sewing nest is beyond believable.   Shopping in her nest was so much fun and we certainly did some major damage to our bank accounts!
I’m going to have to gather all my pictures and do a post of our Minnesota visit.   The pictures don’t do her house justice at all.  It’s beyond gorgeous.
As always, Sandy’s projects are first and mine second.
This first one is a pattern that we both picked up on our Minnesota quilt shop hop that Karen took us on.   We got it at Gruber’s Quilt Store.   It’s called “Antique Churn Dash” by Grandma Shirley’s Quilts

I got this pink fabric from Karen’s shop and all the little churn dashes are using Stacy’s, (Buttermilk Basin) new fabric line called “Humble Beginnings”.   It’s darling fabric.

Next up is a little gem from My Red Door designs called “Springtime”.   It was a little kit that Karen had made up and we both fell in love with it and had to have it.

Karen loaned us the pattern for this next one because the designer is no longer in business.    It’s called “Blessings to Land of Free Angel” by Primitive Blessings by Twigs and Sprigs.
Here’s Karen’s which got us both excited to add it to our list.

This is Sandy’s

and here’s mine.

And last, by not least, is our monthly “Basin Banners Thru the Year” (Sept) by Buttermilk Basin.

So, that’s it for July.  We still plan to do our August show ‘n tell on the 25th, so I’ll see you in a couple of weeks.
If you’ve asked me a question on my blog posts and I haven’t gotten back to you it’s because you are a “no reply” commenter.   Send me an email at abryson@bendbroadband.com and I’ll be sure and answer!

A little more fall decorating.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures from the last post.   I didn’t realize I had taken so many so figured it would be best to break it into 2 posts.

Here we go again.   This is a quilt that I  made last year by Heart to Hand called Autumn Quilt.

IMG_2351

I made this one last year too and it’s by Red Button Company.

IMG_2615

This next one was made when I first started quilting.   I got the pattern from a little shop in Kennewick, WA which has since closed up shop.   The motifs are part of a panel that was cut apart.   I really like the way they designed the sashing.  It was a real challenge for the newbie that I was.

IMG_2612

Just finished quilting this one by hand this year.   It’s called Harvest Moon and is by Heart to Hand.

IMG_2354

This next framed project was one of the first wool projects I did around 2004.   The pattern is by Primitive Gatherings.

If you remember, last year Mr CnW made me this box to fill with floral arrangements.

IMG_2362

IMG_2607

It measures 12” x 48”.   I change it up every season.

IMG_2610

If you’ve been with me for any time at all, you know that mantles are just not my thing.   I have the hardest time decorating them.   So, this will have to do for this year.

IMG_2379

I love this little box with the bowl fillers.   Karen made them for me.   The box itself was made by blogless Sandy.

IMG_2304

I had the hardest time taking the next 2 pictures.   This setting is on the staircase landing and there is a big window above.   No matter what time of day I tried to take the picture, the lighting was terrible.   So, I just took it after dark and used the flash.  Still not happy with the outcome.   Oh well, a photographer is something I’ve never claimed to be.

The little wall hanging is a seasonal interchangeable banner by Primitive Gatherings.

So, happy fall y’all.    I’ll be back in a couple of days with sewing with Sandy, part October.    Stay tuned.

Civil War Sunday #6, Quilt Market, and a giveaway

Sorry I haven't posted Quilt Market pictures sooner but...you know me...always a day late.  But, I'm like the little tortoise that keeps plugging along and in the end I come through for ya.  :)

We're on Block #6 of the Civil War Sampler and this block is called "Port and Starboard".   I love  civil war cheddar fabrics and decided that this block needed them.   Check out Karen's blog and see what she came up with.

After Quilt Market was over, Karen came back to Bend with me for a few days.  After some rainy days in Portland, the weather here cooperated and one day we had crystal clear skies.   I took her up to Pilot Butte for the view and nice man snapped this picture of us.   (My old house is in the background.  Can you find it?) Oh, I crack myself up sometimes.

We had a great visit and I hope she enjoyed a little part of my world.

Now, on to Quilt Market.   One of my favorite booths and designers is Lisa Bongean from Primitive Gatherings.   I feel like I have every pattern and kit she's ever offered, big and little.  She's unbelievably talented and such a smart businesswoman.  You go, Lisa!

Here are her newest designs.  I'll be buying this one for sure.

And here she has more wonderful new mat designs.

Wouldn't this look cute in your sewing room?

The little quilt on the rack had super tiny pieces.   Lisa loves working with those itty bitty scraps!

Loving that cheddar fabric.

Check out the crazy stitches on this one.

This is the "freebie" from last Summer's Block of the Week.    Oh, by the way, there's still time to sign up for this summer's one.   It's a stunner, that's for sure.  (and, you'll get freebie blocks too).

 So simple, yet so effective.

When I asked Lisa if I could blog about her booth, (I always make sure to ask the designers), she very generously offered a kit for a giveaway.  So.... the only thing I'm asking for you to do to enter is...

tell me what your favorite thread is for your wool applique.   If you haven't worked with wool yet, then tell me what your favorite thread is for general sewing.

I'll pick a winner in the next couple days.   (I hate to give you a specific date, because you know me...)   Hehe.

Head on over to Primitive Gatherings and pick up a pattern or kit or two.

Thanks for stopping by and stick with me because I have a few more giveaways.

Hugs, Anne

Ashamed

I promised more pictures of the house, but in true fashion, I just can’t seem to get my act together. So, you’re just gonna have to go over to Anna’s blog to see some.

She showed up yesterday morning (unannounced, I might add Winking smile), and brought her trusty camera with her. I was still in my PJ’s planning on a nice quiet morning to putter around. You know what they say…”the best laid plans…”

Since she showed you house pictures, I’ll show you what I’ve been working on. I’ve definitely got my mojo back since getting settled in here.

Stichery:

made into a pillow.

and another one. Not sure what I’m going to do with it yet…

017

but I think I’m going to make it again in wool. It’ll be fun to see them side by side.

Both patterns are from Primitive Stitches. I just love her patterns.

Here’s another one from the same designer. I got the kit from my friend Karen and am in the process of machine quilting it. There are a couple of rows that have to be ripped out because of tension issues, so I have that still to do.

127

I am NOT a quilter but I figured “how hard can cross hatching be?”. Well, now I know. UGH!

By the way, Karen is having an AWESOME giveaway. Head on over there. You might still be able to get in on it.

Wool:

Am getting this BOM from Primitive Gatherings. It’s called Autumn Quilt by Heart to Hand. I can’t believe that I’m caught up on it. The next 3 blocks are on their way. (I know this because my bank statement shows it!)

016

And you can’t get ready for Christmas too soon.

125

Pattern is called “Seven Santas” by the talented Bonnie Sullivan of All Through the Night. Just have to add the borders and I’ll be done.

Last week when the latest issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects arrived, I fell in love with so many of the patterns. Instead of dog-earing the pages, I decided to just get busy and start on one of them. This one is by Cheri Payne and it’s called Autumn Wools.

022

If you haven’t seen this magazine, you need to head over to their site and get yourself a subscription. It’s well worth it!

Cottons:

I’m trying to get this next quilt done as fast as possible because I want it to hang in the entry.

012

This is my progress so far.

126

Actually, I also have the center block finished but didn’t get a picture taken.

The pattern is called Folk Art Blooms and it’s by Buggy Barn.

We’ve also done a few projects around the house. The latest being recovering our dining room chairs.

Before:

After:

I think they will look nice with the Buggy Barn quilt which will hang on the opposite wall.

So, that’s what’s going on around here. Have a great weekend!
