June sewing with Sandy and some winners!

Things are heating up here.  It’s supposed to be in the 100’s the next few days.   Ugh is all I have to say about that!  (At least it’s a “dry” heat)  LOL

I picked the projects for June and here they are…

As always, Sandy’s are first and mine are second.  (I guess that’s obvious since there are only two of us).  Geesh, the heat is already getting to me.   Tee Hee.

First up is the continuing series of “Basin Banners Thru the Year” by Buttermilk Basin.  This one is for August.

This tiny quilt is from Red Button Quilt Co and it’s called “Little Red Six”.   It measures 12” x 14”.   Sandy used buttons on the borders.

IMG_4391

I made tiny little yo yos.

IMG_4401

This little snowman quilt is from Quilts by Cheri.  It’s called “Snowman Quilt”.   I think it’s one of my favorites that we’ve made.

This one is in the Summer 2014 issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects.   It’s by Plays with Wool and is called “Berry Time”.

Sandy made her frame.  Quite the talented gal!

IMG_4394

I decided to make mine into a pillow.   (I’m running out of wall space)!

IMG_4396

And finally, another little quilt from 101 Fabulous Small Quilts.   This one is called “Civil War Baskets”.  Actually, this one is a carry over from last month so Sandy chose it.

And my little Jack just had to be in the picture!

Now on to the winners of the Buttermilk Basin patterns.

Trio of Stars = Ann in PA

Sewing the Seasons = Wendy

Seasonal Flags = Lori.

Congratulations to the winners.

I will email each of you for your address.

Thanks again to  Stacy for the very generous giveaway!

See you next month!  Stay cool out there.

October sewing with Sandy

Can you believe we are into month 10 of our little projects?   Seems like just yesterday that we started working on all these fun little goodies.

A big thanks to all of you who have commented how much you enjoy seeing what we’re working on.  We are having a great time making them, so we’re glad you are with us on this journey.

First up is a leftover project from last month.    It’s the “Tumbling Leaves” quilt from the book 101 Fabulous Small Quilts.

First up is Sandy’s version.

And mine.  We both used wool for the applique pieces.

IMG_2311

Sandy chose the October projects.    The one she chose for us to do out of the 101 Fabulous Small Quilts was “Shoofly Potpie”.

Sandy made hers very similar to the one in the book.

DSCN0337

I made mine a bit less scrappy.

Next, she chose this cute pillow pattern called “Harvest Pillow” by Red Button Quilt Co.

Sandy’s….

Mine…

We have enjoyed doing the Buttermilk Basin little patchwork pillows thru the year.  This is the one for November.

Sandy’s…

Mine.

IMG_2618

And last up is a stitchery project.   Not sure what the pattern is called.  We just called it the Christmas stitchery.   I think she found it on the internet.

Sandy’s ended up in a 9” x 12” frame.

DSCN0334

I reduced mine to fit a 4” x 6” frame.

Here they are side by side for comparison.

Again, it’s so fun to see how each of us changes up a pattern to fit our own style, or the style of whoever might be receiving one of these projects as a gift.

I’m not sure what’s going to happen with November and December show and tell because we usually reveal our goodies at our Woolies group.   November and December meetings might get cancelled because of the holidays.   Sandy might just have to take pictures and send them to me for showing.    We’ll work it out!

Happy Halloween to those of you who celebrate it.   I always love seeing the little ones who aren’t really sure what all the fuss is about.

A little more fall decorating.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures from the last post.   I didn’t realize I had taken so many so figured it would be best to break it into 2 posts.

Here we go again.   This is a quilt that I  made last year by Heart to Hand called Autumn Quilt.

IMG_2351

I made this one last year too and it’s by Red Button Company.

IMG_2615

This next one was made when I first started quilting.   I got the pattern from a little shop in Kennewick, WA which has since closed up shop.   The motifs are part of a panel that was cut apart.   I really like the way they designed the sashing.  It was a real challenge for the newbie that I was.

IMG_2612

Just finished quilting this one by hand this year.   It’s called Harvest Moon and is by Heart to Hand.

IMG_2354

This next framed project was one of the first wool projects I did around 2004.   The pattern is by Primitive Gatherings.

IMG_2355

IMG_2344

If you remember, last year Mr CnW made me this box to fill with floral arrangements.

IMG_2362

IMG_2607

It measures 12” x 48”.   I change it up every season.

IMG_2610

If you’ve been with me for any time at all, you know that mantles are just not my thing.   I have the hardest time decorating them.   So, this will have to do for this year.

IMG_2379

I love this little box with the bowl fillers.   Karen made them for me.   The box itself was made by blogless Sandy.

IMG_2304

I had the hardest time taking the next 2 pictures.   This setting is on the staircase landing and there is a big window above.   No matter what time of day I tried to take the picture, the lighting was terrible.   So, I just took it after dark and used the flash.  Still not happy with the outcome.   Oh well, a photographer is something I’ve never claimed to be.

The little wall hanging is a seasonal interchangeable banner by Primitive Gatherings.

So, happy fall y’all.    I’ll be back in a couple of days with sewing with Sandy, part October.    Stay tuned.

August sewing with Sandy

I guess you could say I’m a tad late with this post.   I keep trying to convince myself that I “forgot” to blog.  But, honestly, I just seem to always find something better to do. (Can you say, Candy Crush?)  Eek!   But, here I am, and the funny thing is, Sandy I will reveal our September projects tomorrow at our Woolie gathering.   You might get 2 posts in one week.  Wow, what a concept!

Before I share our projects with you, Sandy asked me to let you all know how much she appreciated your kind words and prayers during a very difficult time.   It really meant a lot to her.  She is doing well and hanging in there, thanks in part to all of you!

On with the show.    Sandy chose all the projects for August.

The first project is “Snowman Garland” by Red Button Quilt Co.   We both ordered the kit from Emily (designer) so they are the same, except for the little snowman heads.

IMG_2269

Sandy used the little snowmen head buttons that came with the kit.

IMG_2270

This is mine…

IMG_2276

And I used wool for the heads.

IMG_2277

Next up is a pattern by Buttermilk Basin called Patchwork Pillows and it’s the one for September.

This is Sandy’s.

IMG_2271

And here’s mine.

IMG_2280

I’ve got it sitting on my fireplace with my fall decorations.

IMG_2279

The quilt that Sandy chose out of the“101 Fabulous Small Quilts” is called Underground Railroad.

Here’s Sandy’s.

IMG_2272

And get ready for a shocker…..Here’s mine.

IMG_2281

Yep, I chose to do mine in 30’s.  Quite a difference from the Civil War look of Sandy’s and the one displayed in the book.   I just thought I’d do something different and unexpected.   I like the way it turned out and will give it to Emma for her doll bed.

Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you again later in the week!

I'm a winner!

A few weeks ago, I commented on Carrie Nelson's blog, La Vie en Rosie when she was offering a giveaway.   Well, lo and behold, I was a winner!

Check out this cute label.

I never even knew you could buy polka dot tape.  Now I'm on a mission to find some!

The giveaway was a set of "Fit to be Quarter" rulers.   Carrie uses them, so therefore, that means all my quilts are going to look like hers if I use these rulers, right?   Hmmm!

I got extra excited when I saw that she had included two little polka dot scissor covers.   They are already protecting my scissors.

Thank you so much Carrie!   You are such a generous designer!

Now, on to another challenge that Sandy and I did.   The pattern is by Red Button Company and we saw the sample at Market in May.

This one is mine.

This is Sandy's.  Click on the picture to see how cute the running stitch is that she used for the vine.  Wish I had thought of that.

We also finished our "By the Hand" little Buttermilk Basin mats.    This is the September one of Sandy's.  Hmm, now why did it rotate on me?   Geesh!   Just turn your computer upside down to see it.  :)

I have mine set out with my fall decorating which I'll share with you soon.

Tomorrow I'm heading out with 7 other quilters for a week long retreat at the Oregon Coast.   I'm taking my computer, and if we have a WiFi connection, I'll be sure and share pictures of the creativity going on.

Have a good week!

Hugs, Anne
