Civil War Sunday #6, Quilt Market, and a giveaway

Sorry I haven't posted Quilt Market pictures sooner but...you know me...always a day late.  But, I'm like the little tortoise that keeps plugging along and in the end I come through for ya.  :)

We're on Block #6 of the Civil War Sampler and this block is called "Port and Starboard".   I love  civil war cheddar fabrics and decided that this block needed them.   Check out Karen's blog and see what she came up with.

After Quilt Market was over, Karen came back to Bend with me for a few days.  After some rainy days in Portland, the weather here cooperated and one day we had crystal clear skies.   I took her up to Pilot Butte for the view and nice man snapped this picture of us.   (My old house is in the background.  Can you find it?) Oh, I crack myself up sometimes.

We had a great visit and I hope she enjoyed a little part of my world.

Now, on to Quilt Market.   One of my favorite booths and designers is Lisa Bongean from Primitive Gatherings.   I feel like I have every pattern and kit she's ever offered, big and little.  She's unbelievably talented and such a smart businesswoman.  You go, Lisa!

Here are her newest designs.  I'll be buying this one for sure.

And here she has more wonderful new mat designs.

Wouldn't this look cute in your sewing room?

The little quilt on the rack had super tiny pieces.   Lisa loves working with those itty bitty scraps!

Loving that cheddar fabric.

Check out the crazy stitches on this one.

This is the "freebie" from last Summer's Block of the Week.    Oh, by the way, there's still time to sign up for this summer's one.   It's a stunner, that's for sure.  (and, you'll get freebie blocks too).

 So simple, yet so effective.

When I asked Lisa if I could blog about her booth, (I always make sure to ask the designers), she very generously offered a kit for a giveaway.  So.... the only thing I'm asking for you to do to enter is...

tell me what your favorite thread is for your wool applique.   If you haven't worked with wool yet, then tell me what your favorite thread is for general sewing.

I'll pick a winner in the next couple days.   (I hate to give you a specific date, because you know me...)   Hehe.

Head on over to Primitive Gatherings and pick up a pattern or kit or two.

Thanks for stopping by and stick with me because I have a few more giveaways.

Hugs, Anne

Thank you so much for sharing pictures from Lisa's booth! Hardly anyone has pictures from any of the primitive booths at Market, and primitive is my favorite. My favorite thread to use for wool work is Valdani.

Blocks are looking great! Great picture of you and Karen.

Hi Anne! If I'm doing a whipstitch on wool I don't have a favorite thread! I use whatever is conveniently located and is the color I want.
If I'm doing some type of fancy stitch I like a thin cotton thread that comes on a roll.

Thanks for sharing your lovely pictures of market! I have just started working with wool this past year, and so far, pearl cotton has been wonderful to work with!

Honestly? I just use DMC floss. It's readily available and inexpensive.

Thanks for the visual tour of Lisa's booth. As usual she's designed some great new stuff.

My favorite thread for wool appliqué is Valdani. I took a class from Lisa and fell in love with wool appliqué!

I originally worked wool from my old DMC stash, looked good, disliked having to separate the thread. I am so into Primitive Gatherings too! Just bought her new mini snowman wall quilt kit, love it! And I'm converting over to Valdani, so lets say this is my fav now.
Please enter me into your super giveaway, I'd love to be the winner :D

I haven't yet worked with wool. My go to thread these days is Aurifil 50-wt...fine smooth and strong.

Great picture of you and Karen.

Being fairly new to quilting, I haven't worked much with wool. However, my favorite bobbin thread for machine quilting (domestic) has been bottom line. I'm still experimenting with top threads.

I have lots of DMC floss that I go to for my applique. But, I have purchased some wool Aurifil to use on some prim designs. I will have to pop over to Primitive Gatherings and check out her threads. It is always fun to try new things.

Thanks so much for the tour of Lisa's booth. Her work is nothing short of breath taking. I must start collecting her wool mat patterns. They are so perfect for my house! :)

My favorite thread for wool applique is Valdani. I first heard of it in a class with Lisa at Primitives of the Midwest. Her shop is one of my favorites at quilt shows and I've even driven 9 hours to Wisconsin several times so I could shop at Primitive Gatherings. It's well worth it!

I am loving the new designs and that is a beautiful new piece, perfect for gift giving too. I usually use dmc floss since it is easy to get, but I also love using valdani and pearl cottons, just depends on what I have on hand.

I'm a Primitive Gatherings junkie! I swear I need a 10 step program when it comes to that shop!! Oh wow! It's killing me that I can't see the pictures...Internet is not too strong here at my mom and Dad's house today! I know those quilts must be stunning!! I have recently used wool thread for my wool appliqué. I have Aurafill and Genzania. They slide through the wool like butter...

moosecraft said...

My favorite thread for wool applique is Valdani 3-strand... there isn't any sheen to it... and since I also use a casual whip stitch, the finished piece is very prim. Lisa's designs are always a fun stitch.... I've been admiring this one since it's release! Can't go wrong with fresh picked daisies in a glass ball jar!

I love the Primitive Gatherings designs and am fairly new to wool (still trying to finish up my first BOM). I've only used Aurfil Lana wool 12 wt. for my project and like it so have stuck with that.

Thanks to you and Lisa for the chance to win!

I haven't quilted with wool yet, but sure want to get started. I love the pics you put up for us who visit your blog, thank you. I use Aurifil thread for general piecing but when I need a specific color, I go to my thread stash and who knows what brand I might come up with.

Thanks again for sharing!

Thanks for the pictures of the Primitive Gathering booth.

I have never done a wool project, don't know what thread to use! Wouldn't that little Mason Jars and Daisy project be a cute one to start with? I am not experienced enough to know about the best threads to use. I just use regular old Coats and Clark on my old Featherweight. I enjoy your blog - hope Iwin so I can try my hand at wool applique!

I love the look of the Valdani thread. Whenever I am making one of Lisa's projects I try to use the Valdani. But I have also discovered wool thread which blends in well. When I first started wool applique I used one strand of dmc. I still fall back to that on some projects.
